He was offered a salary of up to £190,000 a year but accepted £170,000 instead. His focus on targets produced widespread reports of managers bullying staff to improve performance. Seven neurologists wrote to Morley concerned at the merger of a neurology ward with a stroke ward. Some consultants left. In 2014 he left to take up a post as chief executive of Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust.
